About Birmingham NIA
The Birmingham National Indoor Arena, more often referred to as simply Birmingham NIA, is a large indoor arena, currently owned by the NEC Group, located in central Birmingham, England, alongside the Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line's Old Turn Junction, opposite the National Sea Life Centre, in Brindleyplace, near The ICC, which is also owned by the NEC Group.
Recognized as one of the busiest large scale indoor sporting and entertainment venues in Europe, NIA has welcomed visitors, since its opening, in '91, to more than 30 sports and a wide range of entertainment and music. The Arena can stage concerts, entertainment spectaculars, business conferences and exhibitions, also accommodating small concerts, ballet or comedy and theatre.
The Birmingham NIA has hosted spectacular shows, over the years, among the most significant ones being Disney on Ice shows, The Lord of the Dance, Cirque du Soleil and La Traviata. Famous and loved artists such as Oasis, Coldplay or Destiny's Child have also performed at NIA, including Sir Cliff Richard, who has played here over 50 times. Over the years, the Arena has also played host to a vast number of significant sporting events, such as: the 1993 and 2003 World Badminton Championships, the 1998 Eurovision Song Contest, the Davis Cup tennis matches, the British Indoor Rowing Championship, since 2000, including many other.
